International Day for the Eradication of Poverty

Today, the day after World Food Day, the United Nations encourages us to celebrate International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. It’s no coincidence that the two observances fall so closely to one another! Poverty and hunger are closely intertwined. Everyday, the gap between rich and poor grows.

As food prices increase, those that live in extreme poverty are forced to dedicate more of their income to food, meaning less money is available to spend on health, school, or other family needs. By eradicating poverty, we will see improved access to quality health care and education, improved living conditions, and longer life spans. We will see a more equitable world!

Do you think it is possible to eradicate poverty? What do you think will happen if we lived in a poverty-free world?
